Recipes & Rituals for Glowing Autumn skin

The cooler months are upon us and nights are already getting a little chilly. It’s the perfect time to bring our focus inward and treat ourselves with self-nurturing rituals. Warming teas and tonics, spa baths, snuggling by the fire. It’s the perfect time to also nourish our skin with some extra loving care in preparation for the cold and often dry Winter months. At our Gaia Day Spa, pampering rituals are the heartbeat of our signature treatments.

Here we are sharing a few tips for creating your own home spa rituals for glowing Autumn skin:

The ritual of inner beauty: Hydration & Tonics

As the weather gets cooler, it’s easy to skip water. Our skin will naturally dehydrate with the colder air, so we still need to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day! One daily ritual is to drink your water at a warm temperature by topping your glass up with a little boiled water. Not only is it better for your digestion, it’s easier to drink on chilly days. Other hydrating foods include celery, cucumber, radishes and kiwi fruit. They’ll also give your skin a boost of vitamins and minerals! You can also add in some herbal tea to the mix, such as beautifying nettle.

For a warming anti-inflammatory tonic, why not try Gaia’s own turmeric recipe:

Gaia turmeric tonic

  • 100 grams fresh ginger
  • 100 grams turmeric
  • One lemon
  • Honey (raw, cruelty-free)* or organic maple or brown rice syrup
  • Sprinkle of Cracked Black Pepper

n ritual:

Peel the ginger, the turmeric and the lemon and roughly chop them all up, discarding any lemon seeds. Put it all in a blender with honey or syrup to taste and cover well with pure filtered water. Blend it all for one minute on low, then strain it.

Give it a taste test and check the balance of the flavours. It should be quite strongly flavoured. Adjust the taste with more lemon or honey or natural syrup and add extra water if it tastes too harsh for your palate.

The ritual of renewal: Exfoliation

Exfoliating will remove dead skin cells and encourage the growth of new ones. It smooths the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores. Keeping that in mind, over exfoliation can be a cause of dryness and inflammation, so no more than twice a week. Our new Refining Face Polish by Retreatment Botanics exfoliates in three effective ways. AHA-rich Lilly Pilly & fruit acids dissolve dull skin, Kaolin clay draws out impurities, and eco-friendly Jojoba beads gently refine the skin’s surface. This ritual can be performed in the shower or leave on for a few extra minutes for a deeper treatment.

The ritual of nourishment: Treat and Moisturise

The cooler, less humid weather can be harsh for our skin. Dry, windy air, indoor heating and overly hot baths can all wreak havoc on our delicate outer protective layer. This is the ideal time to incorporate nourishing, moisture-rich skin rituals into your morning and evenings. Two of our favourite steps are Restore Serum followed by Ultra Rich Moisturiser.

Step 1: Restore Serum – vitamin rich face oil elixir

Just a small daily amount of this concentrated elixir will brighten and illuminate your skin. While you apply the serum, use your ritual time to relieve tension by gifting your face with a gentle massage. While you massage, feel love and appreciation for your skin, embracing your laughter lines and loving smile.

Step 2: Ultra Rich Moisturiser – intensive deep hydration

Follow by centering your mind and body. Take three deep breaths and as you apply your moisturiser, give yourself a self-love affirmation. Some words you can say are: ‘My skin glows with the radiant light that is inside of me. I breathe light and joy into every cell of my being.’ Imagine your skin glowing with deep hydration from the inside out.
